Borut Mackovsek signs for Telekom Vezsprem, Matjaz Brumen leaves Nexe

Borut Mackovsek

After spending the last two years in Celje, Borut Mackovsek was ready for the next big step. The right back signed a 2-year contract with Telekom Veszprem.

The 25-year old Mackovsek already played for many clubs in his career- Al Sadd in Qatar, Hannover and Eisenach in Germany, Montpellier in France and Dinamo Minsk in Belarus. After spending the last two years in Celje PL, Mackovsek decided to sign for the 2-time SEHA champions Telekom Veszprem. In the last two seasons, the powerful left back scored 116 goals and had 35 assists in 33 SEHA appearances. He was one of Celje PL’s key players this season, securing the 3rd place at the SEHA- Gazprom League Final 4.

This departure means that the Slovenian champions are going to be without many of their key players in the past few years, as Urban Lesjak, Ziga Mlakar, Luka Mitrovic and Matic Suholeznik are also leaving the club. No doubt that it will be interesting to see which players join the Slovenian club this summer.

After many successive years on being at the top, Telekom Veszprem did not win the Hungarian championship this season, losing to Pick Szeged in the finals. They were also knocked out in the EHF Champions League by Skjern in the Last 16. The signing of Borut Mackovsek clearly shows the intentions of attacking the throne once again!

Brumen signed for Nexe when Ivan Srsen went on loan to Pick Szeged in the winter. He only made two appearances in the SEHA – Gazprom League for them, after joining the club from Gorenje Velenje.

With the signing of Ivan Vida at the right wing, Nexe hinted that the club will not extend its cooperation with the veteran Matjaz Brumen. The 35-year old scored 7 goals for Nexe, and all of them came in the match against Tatran Presov. He was also part of Nexe's successful campaign in the EHF Cup, almost reaching the EHF Cup Final 4. The right wing previously played for Vardar and Gorenje Velenje in the SEHA – Gazprom League, whilst having a lot of experience in Slovenia- playing for Prule, Celje PL and Koper. It remains to be seen what the next step will be for the Slovenian international, but his career has been filled with success as it is!
