Domestic Championships and Cups Recap

Trophy

2020/2021 season was very challenging for every handball team in the world, but it seems that members of the SEHA - Gazprom League did pretty well and had no problems with dominating their national leagues. As all SEHA - Gazprom League contestants finished their domestic championships and cups, we bring you a short recap of how and where our teams ended this season.

Serbian Arkus Liga had two SEHA representatives who battled it out until the last knockings of the season - Vojvodina and Metaloplastika. Fortunately for the team from Novi Sad, the league had finished a couple of matches earlier than expected and they played wonderfully in the cup final. Vojvodina got the double crown in the end, while Metaloplastika came second in the cup and third in the championship.

Two teams from Macedonian Super League, Eurofarm Pelister and Vardar 1961, who will soon be playing their Quarter-Final matches, started and ended the season strong. Both squads didn't let anything slip out of their hands, but Vardar took home both trophies and left a bitter-sweet taste in the mouths of players from Bitola who once again had to be satisfied with two second places.

Last of our countries with two teams is Croatia. PPD Zagreb managed to claim another Paket24 Premijer liga and Croatian cup against a never stronger Nexe, who always strive to give their all. "Lions" found their strength after appointing Ivica Obrvan as the new head coach, won all matches in the championship round and held Nexe away from the top spot.

Telekom Veszprem won the Hungarian cup in April and at that point everything was looking really good for them. After losing to Nantes in the EHF Champions League, they had a rough few matches, which eventually stopped them from winning a double crown. Pick-Szeged was the better team in Nemzeti Bajnoksag final and after 120 minutes Veszprem lost on aggregate 68:64.

Motor from Zaporozhye won their Super League and cup. The interesting thing is that they didn't lose a match throughout the entire championship, which is such a great accomplishment. Similarly to the Ukrainians, Tatran Presov and Meshkov Brest dominated both of their domestic competitions and ended the season without a loss.

Six out of seven countries got their champions from SEHA - Gazprom League, which should bring a smile to all our fans, who follow our clubs so devotedly.
