Rejuvenated Croatia didn't manage to overpower Spain in EHF EURO Cup 2022

On Sunday, national teams of Spain and Croatia played their last EHF EURO Cup 2022 match in Pontevedra. Although the result of the match didn't affect the final standings, experienced Spain overpowered Croatia with convincing result 34:22.
 
Afore mentioned match has already been rescheduled due to the weather conditions, and in the meantime a lot changed. Croatia travelled to Spain without their main players such as Domagoj Duvnjak, Luka Cindric or Igor Karacic. Spaniards, on the other hand, took the chance and managed to dominate the match. During the first half, the result was mostly levelled, until the hosts took a two-goal lead before half-time (15:13). In the second half, Spanish national team showed their dominance and finished the last match of EHF EURO Cup with +12 goals difference. On the top scorer list was Jorge Maqueda with six goals, while Tomislav Severec was Croatia’s best scorer with four goals.

Hungary (10 PTS, 6 GP)
Croatia (8 PTS, 6 GP)
Spain (6 PTS, 6 GP)
Slovakia (0 PTS, 6 GP)

 
Even though this was the last match of EHF EURO Cup 2022, for Spain it was also the start of preparations for Tokyo Olympics which start in less than a month. The day after the match with Spain, Croatia played a friendly match with the national team of Egypt who are also preparing for the Olympics. Croatians, once again didn’t manage to defeat their opponent, and Egypt secured a 31:28 win, while Valentino Ravnic was the best scorer with six goals.
