PPD Zagreb – team info

PPD Zagreb

Another team which has been a part of the SEHA – Gazprom League from its very beginnings is PPD Zagreb – multiple Croatian champion. With the reputation of being one of the best, most decorated handball teams from this region, PPD Zagreb is always aiming for the top. There is something special about that jersey which was, throughout it long and rich history, worn by so many incredible players that keeps pushing them even when they are not the favored side. Last season’s SEHA – Gazprom League Final 4 tournament is a perfect proof of that – they managed to defeat Meshkov Brest in the semi-finals after the seven-meter shootout only to deliver one of their best performances of the season in the grand final against one of the best teams in Europe – Hungarian Telekom Veszprem eventually falling only two goals short of the victory and the second SEHA title.

Ambitions are sky-high once again. Without further ado, it’s time to meet the team.
Goalkeepers – combination of experience with Dino Slavic as well as Filip Ivic and huge potential in young Matej Mandic. On the far left – captain of the team David Mandic, sharp seven-meter shooter Davor Cavar and Valentino Ravnic. On the right – experienced Ivan Cupic, Vlado Matanovic, Filip Peric and young Paolo Kraljevic. The line is stacked with experienced Zeljko Musa, amazing scorer Marin Sipic, Adin Faljic and Nikola Grahovac. Helping them carry the team on the defensive side of the court is also one of the best Croatian defensive players of the last decade Jakov Gojun. In charge of running the offense is Filip Vistorop who is showing amazing progress lately. There to help him are Sandro Obranovic and young Karpo Sirotic. On the left they have a great two-way player in Zvonimir Srna, Edin Klis and recent reinforcement Slovenian Aleks Kavcic. On the right is young Luka Lovre Klarica and Hungarian international Csaba Leimeter. Head coach of the team is Ivica Obrvan.

‘Lions’ from the Croatian capital managed to add a whole new dimension to their team bringing in experienced players like Ivan Cupic, Zeljko Musa and Jakov Gojun last summer. Not only that they are still capable of delivering great performances, but their presence and experience means a lot to their young core of Vistorop, Srna, Klarica, Sipic, Cavar, Matanovic and others. It will be interesting to see the progress they have managed to make ever since that Final 4 in Zadar. Ambitions are always high and the competition will be as fierce as ever.
